Ethics

Fair Trade

We promote Fair Trade products

We promote ethically manufactured products.

We strive to provide only products which are made in factories that do not exploit workers or use child labour. We have tried to ensure that nearly all our products are manufactured in ethical factories and we are in the process of phasing out any lines which are produced with very cheap labour. We are beginning to integrate ethical trade policies into our core business decisions - like the prices paid to suppliers, and the lead times given to them to complete orders. This is key to achieving widespread change for workers and is one of the biggest challenges of ethical trade.

We're only beginning to implement our ethics policy but we understand that we need to demonstrate that we are paying more than lip service to ethical trade. It's a long road and we hope you'll stick with us.

The Environment

We promote Organic products

We promote organic and environmentally-friendly products.

We strive to provide a range products within our collections which are made with the environment in mind. We are currently sourcing more organic products and we're looking to expand our range of environmentally-friendly goods.

We're not finished yet, but we're getting there.

Green Hosting

Hosted on Environmentally Friendly Servers

Blue Stripes.co.uk is hosted on environmentally friendly 1&1 Internet servers.

On 1 December 2007, 1&1 Internet started to supply all European data centres and most office locations with electrical power from renewable resources such as wind, water, or solar energy. 1&1's past and present electrical power provider Stadtwerke Karlsruhe will supply both its own 'green' power and will buy additional energy from other suppliers within the Renewable Energy Certificate System, RECS. 1&1's involvement helps to save about 30,000 tons of CO2.

1&1 not only desires clean energy, but also wants to use as little energy as possible. Thus, for example, for many years 1&1 has used highly efficient power supplies with less than 20 per cent heat loss and omits any unnecessary components within its servers. As soon as the outside temperature falls below 10 degrees, 1&1 cools its data centre using open-air coolers that work without energy-hungry compressors. Software too can help save electrical power - based on a Linux platform, 1&1 has developed its own operating system that enables the data of up to 10,000 customers to fit on one server and thus saves valuable resources.

Made in Britain

We promote British manufactured products

We promote British manufactured products.

We support British manufacturers and producers. We always strive to buy British made goods and produce directly from the source. We also try to help our local communities by buying locally.

We hope we can help to stimulate trade, help local employment and support small businesses.
